The 5 Basic Rules of Painless Waxing

Waxing is not everyone's cup of tea, and that’s okay. Sometimes we like to explore other options when it comes to our hair removal routine. We go for the (pricey) laser hair removal method, the razor method, and so on. But if you're finally back in the market to try out the benefits of waxing, you're in for a treat.

Waxing need not be a seriously painful process which a lot of people fear when they first encounter this method. Combining new generational waxes like Mello Wax with the tips below is a sure way to have a much mellower experience. Below we navigate the five basic rules of painless waxing -- trust that these tips will yield you long-lasting results in the future!

#1 Wax often.

According to experts (us included!), waiting around for new hair to grow might lead for it to deeply root into your skin. And this usually means a more painful waxing experience. So if you're looking to wax with lesser pain, you will have to wax as often as possible. You can already wax within two to three weeks of hair growth.

#2 Less exposure to sunlight.

Did you know that when your skin is exposed to sunlight, it gets more sensitive? This is why dermatologists highly recommend that you don't expose your skin too much under the sun... and this is even more important if you're planning to have a waxing session in the next 24 hours or so. It’s a big no-no when waxing as skin gets too sensitive leading to a painful waxing experience. This goes for people who have had tanning sessions as well as the effects are quite similar.

#3 If the need calls for it, numb your skin.

For super sensitive skin areas like your underarms or your Brazilian part, you may want to numb your skin first before waxing. You can opt for a numbing cream and then take a pain reliever 30 minutes prior to your waxing session. Alternatively, you can use a cold compress for numbing.

#4 Stay away from skin products that contains acid.

As much as possible, you will have to avoid products that contains anything from AHA's, BHA's and retinols if you're planning to have a waxing sesh two or three weeks later. These skin products that have acids ultimately remove the outer layer of your skin which results to waxing discomfort and should just be avoided all round!

#5 Practice makes perfect.

Nobody's perfect, and so is any waxing session... but that doesn't mean you can't "perfect" the routine! Here’s our own guide to perfecting a waxing sesh at home (hint: it's for the bikini part!). With consistency, there's going to be minimal pain with smooth and longer-lasting results.

Painless waxing? Oh, yes.
