An Editor's Trick To Making Waxing Less Painful This 2019

Redness. Ingrown hairs. Painful strips. There’s no doubt that waxing is one of the most painful of beauty treatments, especially in the summertime when you’re strutting down the beach in a bikini. Thankfully, we have pain-free tips that will help you combat the stress of waxing whether you’re doing it yourself or seeing an esthetician.

1. Let the wax cool way down before doing anything.

When you're talking about getting waxed, a little cooler is always better. What's warm on your hand is hot down there. People apply it way too hot and that can actually take some skin off, make sure you test the temperature on the inside of your wrist before applying.

2. A bit of numbing.

Get those numbing creams if you could, it helps in reducing pain as it numbs or you can say anaesthetise the skin.

3. Avoid in-between shaving.

If you hate waxing and still get it done regularly, then you must skip the shaving sessions in between. If you have shaved your body hair and think of getting waxed after the next hair growth, then you need to be prepared for the extra pain. As the hair is thicker and longer, it will take more effort and even cause pain to pull out the pokey hair.

4. Start small. Like really, really small.

When you're waxing your legs, start with the ankle. If you're doing your arm, start with an area the size of a large watch. It's not easy, especially your first time, and putting wax on your entire leg area at once before removing the wax will make it dry and hard, plus it won't remove hair from the root.

5. Pick your timing carefully.

Avoid waxing during and right before your menstrual cycle if possible as this is when your body tends to be more sensitive due to the change of hormones. This makes the treatment even more painful.

6. Scrub yourself.

One thing you can do before the waxing session is to scrub yourself beforehand. This will help to get rid of the dead skin around the hair follicles. Exfoliating will help prevent bumps and ingrown hair, which will in the end give you a smoother waxing session.

7. Taking all at once, not a good idea.

When you are waxing your arms and legs, take a small patch of hair first. Trying to wax a significant amount of hair can give you some unbearable pain.

8. No coffee or alcohol.

Avoid taking coffee or any alcoholic stuff before waxing. Having caffeine and alcoholic drinks or substance can turn your skin extra sensitive.

9. After your wax, avoid tight clothing, scented lotion, and direct sun exposure for about 24 hours.

Body lotion that contains alpha hydroxy acid can tingle and burn, and a tanning bed or direct sun exposure will be nothing but irritation. Freshly waxed skin is more likely to burn, so be extra careful for about 24 hours after waxing.

10. Do it regularly.

While many people believe waxing stimulates more hair growth, regular waxing actually causes the opposite. Obviously, the thicker the hair is, the more it hurts, so by waxing regularly, each treatment will get slightly less painful. Not shaving in between appointments also won’t hurt (literally) as if you shave, you’re basically taking yourself back to square one.
